I can honestly say that I am not very happy that Verizon won’t be among the US carriers picking up the Samsung Galaxy S II AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile are all known to be getting some sort of variation of the Galaxy S II in September.  The real question is, why did the nation’s largest carrier turn a highly popular device down?  Could it be that they do not want it to steal the shine from the iPhone 5 or even the Droid Bionic.  We probably will never know the answer to that, but at least they did mention that they will carry some sort of Samsung device this fall.  Hopefull,y something comparable to the Samsung Celox.

Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney commented to the Wall Streen Journal that

“We have an extensive portfolio that offers customers a great variety of devices, including the Samsung Droid Charge,”

Verizon is still expected to have a strong Android standing this fall.  Sadly, it could only be a battle between the iPhone 5 and the Droid Bionic.  The change of direction could be because Verizon doesn’t need to rely on so many flagship Android phones anymore.  Why?  They have had the iPhone 4 since February.  They even activated nearly 2.3 million iPhone 4s last spring.  In comparison, that is about 2x as many devices that were sold between the HTC Thunderbolt, Droid Charge, & LG revolution. Apple and their newest phone is likely to sell like crazy on Verizon, especially if the 4G LTE rumors are true.
