Sprint will indeed offer unlimited data for the iPhone 4S, a spokesperson has confirmed. Michelle Mermelstein states that the company is not altering its smartphone data plans, which are priced between $70 and $100 a month. Previously, observers had worried that Sprint would follow in the steps of AT&T and Verizon, which have imposed transfer caps on their customers to mitigate iPhone traffic. The 4S will launch with all three carriers on October 14th, following a round of pre-orders beginning on the 7th.
The decision to keep unlimited data is thought to be aimed squarely at Sprint’s rivals. AT&T has countered the arrival of Sprint by saying it will support faster 3G speeds via HSPA, while Verizon has taken the approach of trumpeting superior network quality. It remains to be gauged how many people are willing to switch carriers solely for liberal data options.
