Qi Wireless Charging: Samsung Droid Charge Review

Matthew reviews the Wireless Charging Pad by LG. The charging pad is compatible with several other devices, not just ones by LG. Qi is a technology that was created by the Wireless Power Consortium back in 2009. Using the concept of the energy flow from Chinese medicine, the WPC decided to develop a standard for wireless charging across the industry. Think of it as the same concept as Bluetooth or USB 2.0/3.0. Using a wireless charging battery cover, along with a pad, your phone has the ability to stay charged without being plugged in.
Pros
- Better than Power Mat or Duracell. No need for huge battery cases
- Declutter your setup
- Charges just as fast a standard travel charger
- Audio Charging Indicator
Cons
- Expensive. $69 for the charging pad and roughly $29 for the battery cover
- The phone gets a little hotter than usual.
- Not every phone has Qi yet. Hopefully Verizon continues to release phones that are compatible. Maybe other carriers will pick it up as well.
Bottom Line
If your phone is Qi compatible, this is a great way to keep your phone charged. Most of us already lay our phones flat on a tablet when not in use. It’s a neat concept to actually be able to charge your phone everytime you put it down. Smartphones are known for poor battery life and this really helps out on those long days. Now if they could only make an entire table out of Qi like we saw at CES in Las Vegas.
Just in case you are interested, the Wireless Charging Pad is Compatible with the following devices
- Droid Charge
- Droid 3
- Droid Incredible 2
- HTC Thunderbolt
- LG Revolution
