According to Electronista, Verizon and Motorola have dropped the requirement to pay at least one month of service at purchase. The biggest issue among consumers were the activation fees for the out of contract price. Every time a data plan is activated, there is a $35 fee to accompany it. This would detur people from signing up for a month after purchase and then cancelling. This will save you about $55 at time of purchase. Today is the release of the Motorola Xoom at Best Buy and Verizon core stores. If you were on the fence about purchasing the 3G model. Does this change your mind? The $599 two year contract price is still requiring an activation fee. That is only because you are signing a contract for plans starting at $20 a month.

The Motorola Xoom will be the first tablet running Android 3.0, codenamed Honeycomb. It will sport a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor running at 1 GHz and a 10.1-inch display (1280 x 800). The Xoom will have 32 GB of onboard memory and 1GB of DDR2 RAM, along with SD card support.

The Xoom will also have a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and will feature a built-in gyroscope, barometer, e-compass, accelerometer and light sensor. For connectivity, it will support Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR +HID, 802.11 Wi-Fi b/g/n, as well as both 3G and 4G LTE. It goes on sale today for $799 and $599 with a two year agreement.
