Other positions in IT exist such as computer systems design engineers, technical architects, software engineers, security analysts, network administrators, and computer systems analysts. Information technology specialists are required in more specific occupations, including information technology marketing, e-commerce/digital media, healthcare, education, multimedia, automotive, home improvement, and business development. The demand for people working in these and other high tech industries will continue to grow. Jobs in high-tech industries are in demand because of globalization, technology improvements, and increased unemployment in some countries. The shortage of professionals in some IT related occupations has led companies to outsource to other countries, creating a shortage of workers in many IT related occupations.
Most of the new jobs in IT are in information technology departments. According to the BLS, the number of computer systems design engineers has increased by 12 percent over the last three years. Computer systems designers perform the development and testing of new computer systems; however, they are not responsible for implementing these systems. The median annual earnings for computer systems design engineers is $40 million.
According to the BLS, jobs in IT have many different characteristics. For example, jobs in IT are divided up into four types: administrators/senior level positions, sales representatives, technicians, and information technology technicians. Technicians are responsible for the day to day management of information technology infrastructure; however, sales representatives are the ones responsible for interacting with customers and vendors. All other positions are divided up between administrators/senior level positions and sales representatives.

In order to get one of these positions, however, you will have to undergo training and have a diploma or degree in a relevant field such as computer science, information technology, or business.
