[Exclusive] Motorola Droid Xtreme Hands-On Photos

We got a early hands on with the Motorola Droid Xtreme today and wanted to give you guys some details on the specs. The build quality is very similar to what we all expect from Motorola. SOLID. The screen is awesome and the colors are much better than the Droid. Motorola did not use an AMOLED screen. Possibly the same type of IPS screen used on the Droid.

  1. Not sure how I feel about the hardware buttons, but WOW…

    • Hardware buttons are a million times better than those capacitive ones. At least with these buttons, you won’t accidentally touch something and end up where you didn’t want to be. I’ll take a real button any day over something you just touch. Smart move Moto. But that’s just me.

      • I could not agree more, I hate having capacitive buttons on the bottom of the phone, sure it makes everything flow nicely but I like having something solid to press that interacts directly with the handset.

    • Well, apart from this, I’m also waiting with Moto’s 3D phone. Which was leaked last month.

  2. come on, you can post clearer pictures, damn it.

    Lazy A55 ppl

  3. clicking the photos take you to flickr and other personal photos can be viewed, I have to believe this is unintentional. Just an FYI

    • wordpress was messing up. I will rehost later. thanks for the heads up.

  4. What about memory (internal and external)?

    How is the battery life?

Any word on when it will be released?

  5. Android Sextreme!!!!!!!!!

    • Muy likey!! Very calllorrr

  6. sexy but motoblur eww

    snapdragon..eww

are you positive that its a 1mhz snapdragon btw? it goes against everything we have heard.

    • It has the OMAP. I corrected it in my post on Gadgetu.net

    • the single most badass Mhz of all time : )

      • To get an idea of how much more powerful OMAP3630 is compared to the OMAP3430 of the old Droid, check my video: http://armdevices.net/2010/02/23/texas-instrument… it’s showing among other, that for graphics acceleration, the new OMAP3530 is 80% faster at same Mhz speeds. The deal about making the processor in 45nm process makes it better, faster and lasts longer on a battery compared to the 65nm of the previous generations.

  7. Sweet, you made the front page of DroidForums.net:

    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-news/50934…

  8. Yeah, but why muck it up with MotoBlur? One of the big selling points for me with the Droid 1 was the fact that it is a 100% pure "Android Experience" phone.

  9. Is the Ram 512MB? I am not too concerned with the whole Motoblur thing because I will be rooting it and loading custom ROM’s on it as soon as they are available. I have my Moto Droid running Froyo overclocked to 1.1Ghz and it is running amazing. 256MB Ram has been the biggest downside of the Droid for me.. the android os is always closing backgrounded programs to free up RAM, but 512MB would solve that.

  10. I’ve had a Samsung branded phone for the last 3 years, BlackJack II and the Eternity.I was on the fence Android OS phone vs IPhone 4, I just fell on the Droid side. I wasnt too syched about the Droid 2 pics (not a fan of the keyboard), but this is awesome.

  11. When is VZW getting an adroid with a 4.3", lanscape qwerty, and a 1+ ghz chip?

ANy specs or details on this device?

    Touchscreens are for toys.

    Professionals require physical keyboards.

The tablet did NOT replace the laptop.

A touchscreen toy will NOT replace qwerty keyboards for adults.

    • replace "adult" with "senior citizen" and your post is accurate. MOST adults now I know prefer touch screen keyboards, and can type faster in any shell with them… especially the ones that transform the keyboard to special use keys – smart, by itself, by predicting what function you will need. (e.g. .com button) – I don’t have to mention other stuff that helps you type faster on a virtual keyboard, like auto correction, etc. etc. etc. – Face it grandpa, physical keyboards are on their way OUT

      • Nuff said

      • Welllll….some people appreciate a hardware keyboard because it doesn’t intrude on your screen space when you have to type.

  12. What about a front-facing camera – is there one? Thanks.

    • I was wondering about that too….that’s like major cause i have an iPhone and of course it’s missing the front face camera..and I didn’t realize how much that impacted my like in a phone

  13. The Motorola Droid has an IPS screen? That’s news to me. Source?

  14. Can we get a video too? PLZ

Breite und Höhe sind zwar riesig, doch dafür entschädigt das Droid X mit geringer Tiefe. Für weitere Bilder und einen ausführlichen Bericht schreibt Euch einfach bei der Gadget University ein. 207. […] as saying they want to release a 2GHz phone before the end of the year. And now, according to Gadget University, there’s this: the Motorola Droid Xtreme, a phone that looks like it’s their equivalent […]

  208. This phone doesn’t have a slide out keyboard but the Droid 2 will. Have you guys thought of how large this phone is already? To add a slide out keyboard would just be too much. Get a Droid 2. From what everyone says it will be the same size as the original. I am glad to see however that they enlarged the battery compartment. Other sites have complained about the hump on the back but if anyone has read reviews on the HTC EVO 4G you’ve seen that they are giving the battery life TERRIBLE ratings. From what I’ve read this phone does has a forward facing camera. The processor that is being included though is only 750MHz however it supposedly is underclocked to 750MHz. A couple of reviewers have claimed that this should be able to be overlocked to 1.5GHz safely once rooted. Who knows if that is true or not. Anyway considering how much larger this screen is typing on a screen keyboard will be far more comfortable on this phone than on the original Droid. I changed to an incredible and sadly fell in love with HTC’s TouchFLO (I know, I know…) and since have not missed the physical at all. If you invest a few minutes in your user dictionary you would be surprised at how nice it really is!

  219. i just ordered the incredible myself but it will not be shipped intil 7-14,should i stop the order……Ok ok guys help me out, which phone is the best? Incredible or the Extreme.

    • Get the extreme. I love HTC but the build quality of a Motorola is much better

  220. IMO yes. I have the incredible and will say that it definitely is faster and smoother than the Droid 1 but it feels cheaper and much less substantial. I held the EVO 4G yesterday to try and get a basic idea of how the extreme will feel and must say that I’m sold. It is bigger no doubt but not too big by any means. If you like to use your phone for multimedia then this is a no brainer. From what I have read so far the fact that this processor is basically underclocked at 750MHz that is going to be a good thing as far as battery life goes. A few different reviews have given the EVO 4G TERRIBLE marks for battery life. The Xtreme had to deal with that issue. Once again it is down to the display, transmitter, and processor. Oh and one more thing. My home is in a more rural part of town. I get to truly see the performance of a phone as far as reception goes. There was a "bug" that supposedly was causing the incredible to display a weaker signal strength than it was actually receiving. Well bug or no bug the incredible drops calls in all the weak areas where my MOTO Droid 1 did not. The incredible’s reception is not as good as the Droid’s in both 3G and 1X environments.

  221. Oh Yeh and the incredible’s battery life is nowhere near as good as the Droid 1’s BUT remember, the Incredible has a significantly faster processor. I’m surprised that they have not developed and installed a technology similar to what the Intel i7 processors have where it underclocks the hell out of the processor until you actually need it. In order for MOTO to be able to power this 2GHz Droid Pro we keep hearing about they’re either gonna have to implement this technology, install a fusion micro reactor or go back to the old "brick" style phone.

  224. Matthew, Can you confirm the following from your brief encounter (reading mixed reports/speculation)

    – FM receiver – cool

    – 1500 Mh battery – decent

    – 2nd noise canceling mic – nice

    – Gorilla Glass – awesome

    – Front facing Cam – don’t care

Just hoping I can live w/ the Blur..

    • Not sure about the transmitter, battery life. It most likely has gorilla glass as does most Motorola products do. No front facing camera. I did not see a noise cancelling mic.
