The Internet offers a power so broad and influential that it is capable of being used for just about any purpose that lies in its path depending on data, and every person who gets connected to one of the component networks actually owns it. It facilitates human interaction via electronic mail, social networking, chat rooms, discussion groups, and web conferences anything you can think of can be done online. As long as the technology allows it, anybody can publish their thoughts, ideas, knowledge, or information online. What’s more, due to the widespread reach of the Internet, information can circulate on a faster and wider scale than it used to do previously.
The Internet wasn’t always this fast-paced. Even before the worldwide web became a sensation, packet data took quite some time to be transmitted. A number of factors played a significant role in speeding up the transfer of data on the Internet today including state of the art computer architecture, improved transmission protocols, improvements in networking equipment and services, and advancement of Internet application protocols.
The Internet works on levels including layer 2, layer 3, and transport layer. Layer 2 is the layer right below the Internet’s mainframe where packets are sent and received. On the other hand, layer 3 refers to the subnet layer within an IP network. The data travels from the source to the destination through this layer. It passes through several layers before reaching the destination in a form of packets. The IP packets have their different types such as IP packets, ICMP packets, TCP packets, MMS packets, and IMCP packets.
Routers play a very crucial role in the efficient functioning of the Internet. A router is a piece of hardware that is embedded in a personal computer and connected to the Internet via a network cable or DSL line. This device acts like a switch so that normal wires can connect it to the Internet. If there are no servers at the other end of the cable or DSL line, it will act as the router and through this, it will connect the computers on the other end of the cable to the internet service provider.
It also aids in the transfer of data across the different computer networks. Computer networks include the local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and the intranet. Wide Area Network has many subnets which allows various computers to connect with each other. On the other hand, Intranet is a type of virtual network. On the other hand, the Internet itself is a collection of different computer networks including the World Wide Web.
With the help of hypertext transfer protocol, web pages can be displayed on the computer monitor. Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), otherwise known as markup language, is a method of writing web pages using syntax similar to that of HTML code. The hyperlinks are represented by boxes, where the left side is the body of text and the right side its hyperlink. Sometimes, images and animations are also supported. Hypertext Transfer Protocol is a part of the internet protocol suite, which allows for graphical user interface elements such as menus, buttons, check boxes, radio buttons, image galleries and others.
