BlackBerry Torch for Verizon Verizon Gets Ship Date

Verizon announced today that they will be offering their very first BlackBerry Torch model withe the Torch 9850.  It will be available online September 8 and reach stores on September 15.  The Torch is the replacement for the Storm, which launched on Verizon a couple years ago.  The choice to rename from the Storm was smart.  The Storm was looked at as the iPhone killer during a time when many phones tried and failed.  This model is touch-only and resembles the Storm design, but is a completely different device.  It will cost $200 on a two-year contract.

The version coming to Verizon should be the same as on Sprint.  Both models have a 3.7-inch, 480×800 touchscreen. This will be RIM’s largest screen on a phone to date.  Under the hood, it is the same 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, a five-megapixel camera with 720p movie making that is found in the Blackberry Bold 9900 and 9930.  Also, there is a 16GB microSDHC card preloaded.  This will be a world phone and will be capable of working across the pond.
