Accroding to Pocket Lint’s sources at Viewsonic, Android 2.4 is set to be released in April of this year. The new update is expected to bring support to android for dual core phones. This kind of makes me wonder if all these new tegra phones are really “usable” at this point. It reminds me of when the iSeries processors came out from Intel. Very few games actually utilized more than two cores on their quad core models.
Well apparently this is why Google has been pressuring manufactures to hold off on releasing an Android 2.3 update. Anyways, the Viewsonic rep also indrectly confirmed that Android 3.1 could be dubbed the name “Icecream” and that Android 2.4 is still a minor update for Gingerbread. I don’t know about you guys but the Android Software versions are starting to get confusing. I honestly think they need to rename the versions if they never expect to release Android 3.0 Honeycomb to phone devices. However, Icecream is said to be the software to bring some Honeycomb like features to phones. As usual, take this with a shot of Jack until Google says otherwise.
